Please see the information below about the recent PowerSchool cybersecurity incident involving schools across the country, including Morris Central School District.
On December 28, 2024, PowerSchool experienced a cybersecurity incident that involved unauthorized access to certain PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS) customer data.
PowerSchool was our SIS through the 2023-24 school year. This breach was unauthorized access to data that was housed on a PowerSchool Server. The company has indicated they are conducting an investigation and notifying districts directly if there was data that was compromised.
Morris is one of thousands of districts across the country that had compromised data. Though Morris no longer uses PowerSchool, the platform still houses historical data for staff and students going back two decades.
PowerSchool has reported the incident is contained and the company does not believe there is an ongoing risk. PowerSchool further said it has no evidence of malware or continued unauthorized activity.
PowerSchool is offering two years of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection for all impacted families and educators. PowerSchool will reach out to those affected by this breach.
As more information becomes available, it will be published on the district webpage.
